Hawaiian diamond "peridot"-Many years ago, European explorers arrived on the island of Oahu. Diamond head had not yet received its European name. The explorers were excited as they believed Diamond head to be full of diamonds due to the sparkling reflections from the sunlight. What they were actually seeing was olivine, which in gem quality is peridot (The "T" in this French word is silent). This is why peridot is the "Hawaiian diamond". Peridot is a stunning green stone and also the birthstone of August. It is believed that there are only two true natural green sand (olivine) beaches in all of the world and one of them is here in Hawaii… many pieces of jewelry are created by us, using peridot and/or this green sand. It is a 5 to 6 mile round trip hike to get to this amazing beach!
